The Hidden History of VBG
Saturday, August 23 @ 10am - 11am
Step Into the Past! Exploring History with Tracy Long
Join anthropologist, longtime VBG board member, and Visitor Services Director Tracy Long for a fascinating walk through our Chilean Garden as she uncovers the hidden history revealed by the Thomas Fire.
An archaeological survey prior to VBG taking possession of the land stated that there were no cultural artifacts of note on the site. The Thomas Fire revealed how wrong they were by exposing evidence of over 200 years of agricultural use and water management. Along the way, we’ll point out Mission era terrace walls, odd stone formations, stair steps built into the hillside, and a massive dam built across the ravine. Find out what we know and what we would still like to learn about the story this land has to tell.
